Phillip D Woods
Picture


​Phillip is a Periodontist and Clinical Consultant. He is one of the first dentists to complete the Masters of Public Health degree and a fellowship in Family and Community Health at Harvard University concurrently. Phillip held faculty positions at major dental schools in all sections of the continental USA and Alaska.  He has extensive experience in oral health care, scientific review of health services, assessment of oral policies, design and approval of dental devices, restorative materials and novel technology.  He enjoys painting, writing, playing piano and music group performances.  Phillip moved to another state in fiscal year 2023-24. ​

Art was an avid promoter and financial supporter of higher education.  He was a George Washington University alumnus and had a career in insurance.  He enjoyed music and demonstrated his vocal skills in performances with the Leisure World Fun & Fancy theatre group, Inter-Faith Chapel Chancel Choir, Leisure World Chorale, and barbershop groups.  Art sponsored a contest for a visual tool to promote Scholarship Foundations programs.  The visual is the “Be Their Wings” logo. Art passed away fiscal year 2023-24.

Foundation Consultants

​Individual (s) with interest and commitment to the Scholarship Foundation mission. The consultant is responsible for review of applications and determining recipients for the mathematics, music and life science scholarships.

Formal education, careers and experience in the sciences, mathematics or music is verified. Consultants may be residents or nonresidents of Leisure World.

Roman Cjzuko

Picture
Roman retired from the Statistical Research Center, American Institute of Physics. For more than 20 years, Roman led a unit of 13 staff members engaged in research on education and employment in physics, astronomy, earth sciences, and allied fields. His research focused largely on employment of scientists from the first job through the retirement process. Recent publications include "Common Careers of PhD Physicists in the Private Sector" and "Equipping Physics Majors for the STEM Workforce". He was awarded Fellow status in the American Physical Society and was former President of the Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology. Roman earned a Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University and a Master's Degree from the University of Oregon.

Elaine O'Leary

Elaine has extensive music training in classical music from the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Her membership and commitment to excellent music is demonstrated with the Leisure World Chorale and the concerts performed by the Chorale. She is frequently piano accompanist for special and seasonal music services of the Chancel Choir at The Inter-Faith Chapel. The classic jazz band was started in 2010 after Jules Levine was introduced to Elaine on the tennis court.

Karen Bartman

Picture
Karen holds degrees in piano performance, music history and music education. She is a certified Suzuki teacher and teaches with summer Suzuki Institutes and has held positions on the faculty of the University of Missouri, Lincoln University and currently with the Levine School of Music.
She maintains a private piano studio and regularly contributes her skills, talents and time as a piano-organist throughout the metropolitan area. For fifteen years, she held the position of Director of Music at the Inter-Faith Chapel in Leisure World. This position was responsible for vocal and instrumental program composed of four groups and outreach music ministry.
